Blog Tour: Vampire Elite by Irina Argo - Review and Guest Post

Vampire Elite Virtual Book Tour - June 6 - August 6

What they say: Vampire Elite is a new Paranormal Romance vampire series. The first two parts are released in one volume: Part 1. Prophecy & Part 2. Keepers of the Key

What will he do if saving his people means destroying the woman he loves?

A millennia-long war between two immortal races is about to come to an end. Long ago, the Vampire Elite began capturing the immortals called the Amiti, attracted by their unique blood properties. Now most Amiti live in underground cells, forced to serve as vampires’ bloodstock. The few surviving free Amiti, preparing a final strike, have declared their Queen a traitor. Her execution makes possible the rise of a new Queen, her young daughter Arianna, who will inherit her mother's mystical powers. Working with the Keepers of the Key, Arianna may be able to eliminate the vampires, once and for all, from the face of the earth.
The new Queen is the last hope to save her dying race and she's ready to fight to the last drop of her blood. But the King of the Vampires has other plans. What neither expects is the passion that erupts between them.
Vampire Elite is an epic story of a bitter conflict between two immortal races, and the effect of that conflict on everyone living in its grip. The characters are driven to love and betrayal, vengeance and sacrifice in a world without easy black-and-white answers. Based on an ancient Egyptian legend, packed with action and intrigue, Vampire Elite will pull you into the entrancing world of immortals and open new portals into their hidden universe.

Meet VE Character: Simone, Vampire Princess
As the offspring of Tor and the former Amiti Queen, the vampire princess Simone is Arianna’s half-sister, and she is often torn between loyalty to her sister, on the one hand, and loyalty to her father and the Vampire Elite as a whole, on the other. Simone also feels extremely insecure because of the Amiti blood in her veins. Despite being raised as a pampered child in the royal household, she has always suspected that her vampire King father and her family, the Royal pride, never loved her wholeheartedly because she was born defective. Simone is starving to be loved and believes that she can earn this love she perceives to be missing if she can just make herself powerful, strong, and self-sufficient enough—that is, if she can prove without a doubt that she has all the qualities vampires value the most. Unconsciously she becomes convinced that she can fill her emptiness and compensate for her lack of personal power by falling in love with and mating a top-ranking male in immortal society: Antar, the Alpha of the Legacy of Tyr, the immortal police force. She will do anything to win his heart, even if it means betraying someone she loves. But stepping on this path does not bring her the desired result; it just entangles her further in her own vulnerability and insecurity. She creates what she believes to be irreversible damage that will bring the entire Amiti race to the verge of annihilation.

From the Authors
We had lots of fun following Simone’s down the path of adventure and inner development she’s living. She’s spoiled rotten and stubborn, but also very vulnerable, and she tries so hard to prove herself as a real full-blooded vampire, to win the affection of others, or to do the right thing that she overdoes it, with often outrageous outcomes. That’s what makes her a compelling and often funny character: the feeling of wanting to fill an inner void, propelling her to do crazy things in the hope that that is what will make her feel complete. But deep within, as much as she tries to push it away, she knows the truth, which is that in order to find her true self she has to embrace both sides of herself: the vampire and the Amiti. At this point she’s not yet ready to do it; she’s still too bound by the opinion of vampire society—and too afraid that they’ll reject her. Here again, immortal struggles provide a perspective on our own human ones. Hasn’t each of us, at some point, sacrificed a part of our self—even perhaps a part that we hold sacred—in order to feel a sense of belonging or love?

What I say: Vampire Elite is a fun adult fantasy romance. It mixes vampire lore with ancient Egyptian gods and goddesses. The book focuses on several characters, a few different love stories and the battle between the vampires and the Amiti.

There is a lot of back story and mythology involved in Vampire Elite starting with the creation of the two races. The Amiti have effectively been reduced to bloodstock for vampires, fetching extremely high prices at auction. Vampires can blood-bond with an Amiti, sharing their powers, but this gives the Amiti control over the vampire.

The book starts with the Amiti Queen facing betrayal, and the resulting quest for vengeance. Focusing on two remarkable young women the story is a sort of coming of age tale. Simone is the half-blood daughter of vampire King Tor and the former Amiti Queen Istara. Istara is forced to leave Tor and have a pureblood child with the Amiti, Marcus. Istara's other daughter Arianna is now the new  future Queen of the Amiti.

I really liked Arianna, and felt so sorry for her - the poor girl really suffers! It seems pretty much everybody has an agenda when it comes to Arianna, her powers, life in general and what she should do and who she should love. Simone was harder to like, namely because some of her actions seem petty and harsh at times. I could see where she was coming from, but I often found her to be selfish and then she'd surprise me by being really selfless.

I will say that even with the glossary I found the numerous names and terms slightly confusing, but not enough to put me off from reading the next book!

There are many twists and turns in Vampire Elite, and I was often left wondering what could possibly happen next?! There's also a lot of sex scenes and descriptions, so be prepared for a sexy fantasy story with a darker edge.

My fav non-spoilery quotes:
  • Jealousy blossomed in her, a monstrous sunflower, its black center swallowing her heart.
  • He wanted to comfort her, but the words stuck in his throat. What could he say? What would a lion say to his prey?
  • "She's an Amiti. They're all about love. I mean, look at Istara? Amiti will do anything for love."
