ARC Review: A Little Too Much by Lisa Desrochers

What they say: In the follow-up to Lisa Desrochers’ explosive New Adult novel A Little too Far, Alessandro Moretti must face the life he escaped and the girl he loved and left behind.

There are ghosts in twenty-two year old Hilary McIntyre’s past that she’d just as soon forget. But life is finally starting to look up. She’s gotten herself straightened out and she’s daring to shoot for her childhood dream of becoming a Broadway actress. She’s got the voice, she’s got the looks, now all she needs is the in, and her boyfriend, who’s already scored a major support role, is going to be it. But unfortunately for Hilary, ghosts from your past don’t always stay dead.

When Alessandro Moretti shows up on her doorstep, she knows he could ruin everything, but he’s got ghosts of his own, and apparently, she’s one of them. She hasn’t seen him since they were teenagers in the group home, but a week hasn’t gone by in the eight years since that she hasn’t thought of him or his brother. Even so, there’s no way she’s going to let his reappearance throw her off her game. And she sure as hell isn’t going to tell him her secret-even though there’s something about him that makes her want to. When she finds herself falling for him all over again, she has a decision to make. Her future or her past? The truth or the lie?

  • A Little Too Much is the follow up to A Little Too Far. It's set for release on 12th November 2013 by William Morrow Impulse (Harper Collins).

A received an ARC from the publisher via edelweiss in exchange for an honest review!

What I say: This review may contain a few spoilers from A Little Too Far (you don't have to have read book one first, but I would recommend it). I loved Lexi, Trent and Alessandro's story in the last book, but I felt there was a lot of mystery and unanswered questions surrounding Alessandro, his past and what happens next (I actually preferred him to Trent *le sigh*)!

A Little Too Much is told from Hilary's POV (she's the gal Alessandro mentions to Lexi in the last book). Hilary is quite the character; she's broken, tortured, and struggling. Hilary's backstory is pretty dark and she's a very different character to Lexi.

Hilary is an aspiring actress who loves performing but is still waiting for her big break. Acting is an escape for Hilary. Her attitude to relationships is really sad and the insights into her teenage years both before and after Alessandro left were heartbreaking.

Alessandro's story is devastating and not just in terms of what happened with Lexi in Rome. He was a lost and broken man long before he met and feel for Lexi; Hilary came first! Alessandro is trying to deal with the guilt from his past and he sees helping Hilary as a way to do so. What really stands out about him in both books is how caring and selfless he is. Alessandro lives a life full of guilt and puts everybody before himself. I remember being distraught by how things ended between him and Lexi because more than anybody Alessandro deserved a HEA.

I laughed, cried and swooned whilst reading Alessandro and Hilary's story. I figured out a certain twist fairly early on but enjoyed seeing the story unfold. A Little Too Much is a wonderful New Adult story with lots of romance and sexy scenes, but also some moments which are so poignant and sad you'll need a whole box of tissues!!
