What I say: I really liked book #1 Only For You because not only was the story touching, sad and compelling but I really liked Genna Rulon's writing style. So I was keen to read book #2 because I wanted to know how Sam was going to cope and how she could possibly move on from what happened in Only For You, thankfully Rulon doesn't disappoint.
I cried a lot whilst reading Sam's story; it was hard seeing her go from outgoing and fun to reserved and troubled, but her life wasn't necessarily all that rosy to begin with (ugh her parents)!
Similarly to book one my favourite part of the book was Sam and Everleigh's friendship. In a genre where female characters are often shallow or backstabbing it was really refreshing to see how far they genuinely supported and loved each other.
Bartender Griffin (who I thought of as a sexy kind of BFG - well he is giant huge) is back and he has a plan! Without going into detail the guy is bad ass! I liked Griff in the first book but loved him in Pieces For You - he had endless patience and understanding.
Sam suffers a LOT in the book, but I was worried she might suddenly be fixed which wouldn't have made sense and would have belittled her suffering. This doesn't happen; the book is about Sam trying to rebuild her life and coming to terms with the past. I applauded Rulon's sensitive handling of the issues in Only For You and she has transferred that sensitivity over to Sam and tackled the horrible things Sam experiences with understanding and a great deal of tact!
As much as I didn't want Sam to suffer, I also didn't want her to suddenly be fine. I also strangely wanted her to be fine and notice Griffin. So it was a strange set of emotions all round!
Hunter and Everleigh have a big presence in the story, as does a certain new character (there's defo a story there). It's always nice getting to catch up with such great characters. A great follow up and addition to the series!
