Beautiful Broken Review Tour

Beautiful Broken by Nazarea Andrews
University of Branton, #2

October 2013

What they say: She's been broken by her past. He's been breaking for as long as he can remember. Together, they can make each other whole--or destroy each other.

When his best friend asks for something, Dane rarely says no. But babysitting a newly sober Scout Grimes for three weeks isn't exactly a normal request. And with their history, it's a recipe for disaster. Not to mention, she's drop dead gorgeous and he can't touch her.

There are few people Scout trusts as much as Dane Guillot. He's always been her safe place, where nothing can hurt her. He's also been the only man she's never let herself want--screwing up their friendship isn't worth one amazing night together.

They have too much history, and too much personal baggage to ever work. But if they are willing to take a chance on love--it might be worth the risk.

Author Spotlight:

Nazarea Andrews is an avid reader and tends to write the stories she wants to read. She loves chocolate and coffee almost as much as she loves books, but not quite as much as she loves her kids. She lives in south Georgia with her husband, daughters, and overgrown dog.

I received a copy in exchange for an honest review!

What I say (review): If you've read the first book in Nazarea Andrews's Uni of Branton series you'll know Scout is Atticus's troubled younger sister and Dane is his best friend. Beautiful Broken begins with Scout being released from rehab and moving in temporarily with Dane.

Be warned they both have a lot issues and Scout in particular is trying to move on from something pretty horrific. The story goes into some dark places and I found myself getting annoyed at Atticus's reaction to certain events.

Scout is damaged and broken. She doesn't trust anybody other than Dane (not even her brother). I had a difficult time getting past how nobody had really questioned why Scout got into drugs in the first place.

I both liked and disliked Dane. On the one hand he drops everything to help her, but then some of his actions were really hurtful. The title is very fitting and when you read the book you'll understand why.

It was good to see Atticus and Avery back, and by the end of the book I could understand Atticus's actions concerning his sister more (I blame Nik). Interspersed with the drama and romance there is a lot of sex and adult themes in Beautiful Broken. I would have enjoyed a more developed ending but as this is a continuing series I'm hoping we'll see more of them as the University of Branton world expands.

3.5 - 4 Stars in my Sky!
